Science-Based Target initiative analyst

Full time 1 year contract – Starting as soon as possible. WWF France is looking for a Science-Based Target initiative analyst to join its Programmes department.

By working with local communities, governments, businesses, and other NGOs WWF is defining new ways of working that will make a difference at a scale that matters to help redefine humanity’s relationship with the planet. From numerous initiatives, priority areas and priority species, the entire WWF global network is focused on six major goals –forests, oceans, wildlife, food, climate & energy, and freshwater – and three key drivers of environmental problems –markets, finance and governance.

WWF France (220k donors, 3k volunteers, 90 employees, budget of 24m€, 5 sites) is recruiting in its Programmes department a 1-year short-term contract to contribute to WWF network 3-years global plan on Science-Based Targets initiative.

Your missions

Under the responsibility of the Head of Climate, Energy and Sustainable Cities programmes and management of the SBTi Coordinator, you will play a critical role in the WWF Science-based target initiative (SBTi) international programme by:

  • Conducting in-depth assessments of corporate emission reduction targets against the framework of the SBTi Developing clear and concise target validation reports as outputs for companies participating in the SBTi
  • Supporting the continued development of the SBTi’s technical tools and guidance documents, including sectoral methodologies
  • Writing and presenting training materials to disseminate best practices on science-based target setting across the WWF network
  • Supporting the WWF’s corporate engagement teams in national offices on technical questions related to science-based targets as required
  • Supporting the development of thought leadership on corporate greenhouse gas accounting, management and target-setting
  • Constructively contributing to the work and vision of the WWF SBT team as well as the SBTi core team

Required qualifications, skills & competencies

  • Master’s degree in sustainability, climate change, environmental studies, engineering or related field is required 
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Excellent analytical skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English ; French or any other language considered an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of carbon methodologies and accounting, with knowledge of the science based target methodologies considered an asset
  • Excellent understanding of sustainability issues in a corporate environment
  • Ability to work with teams and in different cultural contexts and virtual team structures
  • Highly organized, fast learner, attention to detail, and persuasive communications skills 
  • Great interest for environmental issues
  • High MS Office proficiency, in particular MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
